Activity
There is training of seals and porpoises at Fjord&Bælt every day at 11:00, 13:00, and approximately 15:00.
Watch as the large marine mammals at Fjord&Bælt undergo their daily training. They are trained to be stimulated and to prepare for participation in research experiments.
Research is conducted on behavior, echolocation, as well as a significant amount of biomonitoring.
We start with the seals, which go through various exercises depending on the relevant research projects of the day. At Fjord&Bælt, there are 3 harbor seals. Their basin is in natural extension of Kerteminde Fjord, which means they follow the natural cycle of the year.
Then we move on to the training of the porpoises at the second basin, which is also in direct contact with the fjord.
As one of the very few places in the world, you can experience and see up close the Danish national whale: the porpoise at Fjord&Bælt. The porpoise is a shy animal, and it is a very special feeling to see this fantastic and fascinating marine mammal, which lives, reproduces, and thrives in Danish waters, so close.
During our training of seals and porpoises, there may be researchers, along with the trainers, working with the animals. It can become a bit more technical. Therefore, there may not often be presentations. But our guests can ask questions immediately after the research session, and our animal trainers are also happy to answer follow-up questions.
We work with the animals on their terms. This also means that we cannot promise that they will do exactly as we had planned. This is also part of the charm of working with animals, as a great deal of trust is created between the animals and the animal trainers, which you can experience up close.
The last training session of the day at approximately 15:00 can vary in terms of the time of day. We will announce it over the loudspeaker beforehand.
