Mermaid visiting

31. august 2024
Experience a mermaid visiting the seals at Fjord&Bælt. Are you familiar with the North Atlantic legends about selkies? The mythical beings who can take on a seal form and live underwater? On Saturday, August 31 at 12:00 PM, we will have a real mermaid visiting Fjord&Bælt. Come and watch her swim among the seals. And maybe we will all learn more about what the legends of the selkies are made of.

Karin Prehst Lund Madsen is a mermaid, freediver, and actress. She has trained herself to hold her breath for over 4 minutes. Freediving is a sport where people dive using only their lungs and body muscles. She enjoys the feeling of being underwater, just like the fish around her.

We humans don’t see very well underwater. However, you can actually train yourself to improve. Not as well as on land, but well enough to distinguish the fish from one another and to avoid bumping into either fish or corals—or the aquarium’s glass.
